Bellahouston – Bealach Há-Stein / Hall-stein – Pass of the Standing Stone/ Hugh’s Township

Tha pàirce Bealach Há-Stein cho grinn ri gin de chluaintean uaine Ghlaschu, ainmeil a-thaobh spòrs agus na dhachaigh do thaigh-ealain Thearlaich Rennie Mhic an Tòisich. Tha ginealaich nas sine cuideachd a' smaoineachadh air an àrd-sgoil, aon dhe na h-aon àitean far am faighteadh cothrom Gàidhlig a dhèanamh san sgoil. A-measg nan Gàidheal ainmeil a bh' ann, bha Tormod MacIlleathain, Wilma NicUalraig (seann àrd-ghobhairnear!) agus Blar Dùghlas, a rinn Solas M' Aigh a tha ga ghabhail an-seo. Tha fìor seann thùsan an ainm a' dol air ais gu ruig' an t-slighe eadar dà bhaile gu math Gàidhealach.

Bellahouston is of the Southside’s contemporary green jewels, with the park playing host to major sporting events as well as being the home of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s House for an Art Lover. The name is also forever associated with Gaelic for older generations of Gaels who attended one of the few schools in the city where it was possible to study the language. Well-known alumni include Norman MacLean, former Heid Girl, Wilma Kennedy, and Blair Douglas, whose famous hymn Solus M’ Àigh features here. The oldest incarnations of the name go right back to its place as the great natural route between two very Gaelic towns, better known today as Paisley Road.
